How to Run a Smart Merge on Backlog Requirements
Use Smart Merge to identify similar/overlapping requirements in your Backlog, review the suggested pairings, decide whether to Ignore or Merge for each group, and then execute the merge to keep the best requirement while archiving the duplicate(s).

How It Works
Open Smart Merge from the Backlog toolbar
From the Backlog grid, click the Smart Merge button/icon in the top-right action toolbar to begin the guided merge workflow. Run Smart Merge after you've filtered the backlog list (e.g., by pillar/module/status) so the analysis focuses on a cleaner set of candidates.
Select the Pillar and Epic/Module, then continue
In the Smart Merge panel, choose the Pillar (e.g., Cloud HCM) and the Epic/Module (e.g., Core HR). Click "Continue" to confirm the scope for analysis.
Confirm selections and start analysis
Review the summary of your chosen Software/Epics and Status, then click "Start Analysis" to generate merge candidates.
Review Group 1 results and the differences
After analysis completes, read the Source vs Target requirement IDs, the percentage match, and the "Differences" narrative to understand what overlaps and what is unique.
Choose whether to Ignore or Merge for the group
For the current group, decide between "Ignore" (keep both requirements separate) or "Merge Requirements" (combine and archive the duplicate). Toggle the appropriate option for the group based on your review.
Navigate through all groups and repeat decisions
Use "Next" to move through each suggested group (e.g., Group 2 of 3, Group 3 of 3). For every group, review details and set Ignore or Merge accordingly until you reach the final group.
Open the selections summary
On the last group, click "Show Selections" to review everything you chose to merge before executing changes.
Proceed with the merge
In the Merge Selections Summary, confirm the Source, Target, and resulting Merged Requirement ID(s). Click "Proceed with Merge" to execute the merge operations.
Verify completion and close the results
Review the Smart Merge Execution table to confirm merged items show Success and that archived IDs are recorded. Click "Close" to exit when finished.
